10 days grace....

10 days at Kudat really brought the best damned xperience to me...u want to know why?? Let's checked on my list...tadaa!!

1. my nose was bleeding...u know why??actually i already forgot how to equalized my ears while inside the water (poor me...;p)

2. Anak & Rino had tought me how to catch fish...and at the end I caught only 2 fishes (that happened after 5 day passed...see the Pantai Kelambu's (PK) fishes didn't like me...: ) but the joyous moment was snorkling around PK..it really beautiful and nice...

3. since i had no other entertaiment except playing JJ's poker cards, so i had to learn and played with the PRO players  ...and now i  became an "amateur player"..hahahaha!! can u believe it?? ( speacial thanks to PROfessional card players ---> Tante Debra, Jaguan Andy & Mamai Rudy for teaching me to play PAIRS & CHOW TAI TEE...gracias!)

Well, i had learned more things (beside my list above) ---> about fish catching (even i only caught 2 of them), hatchery ( to do aeration manually when your system made your temperature high :p), friendship (for coffee sharing & t, dicipline, cooking (helping anddy make pasta..yummy!!) life and etc...every moment was wonderful and it will stay on my mind and be my guidence trough the journey of my life......KOTUHADAN.(a kadazan word which means THANK YOU).

thanks to Rebecca and Chris

Rebecca and Chis our most recent interns / volunteers have just left and they did a really good job. Rebecca created the microscope area for the discovery centre with a series of displays on cells, organs and tissues. Interactive and visually stunning.
Chris taught us a lot about PR and prepared the digital interview and the press pack along with a guideline for press releases prior to opening. Great job.
By the way the day after you left we found the reef and a shipwreck -- come back and dive with us again.
Thanks to both. Good luck back in the UK.

Seaworld stole our name!!!

As if being Seaworld - Orlando Florida is not enough. Those American folks are building another aquarium extraviganza and they are naming it --- Yes you guessed it AQUATICA But Hey - Aquaticakk is going to be the best tourist attraction in kota kinabalu Sabah.

See http://www.thedisneyblog.com/tdb/2006/12/aquatica_new_se.html
http://www.screamscape.com/html/seaworld_florida.htm
They say that this will be a “naturalistic water park” that will include experiences with animals as well as water rides. They even issued a piece of concept art showing off one of the park’s new signature attractions, a clear acrylic waterslide tube that will go through a lagoon full of Commerson’s dolphins. WOW

Acrylic tunnel is US$10 000 per metre for half tube, no delivery, no installation, just the plastic...

The Story So Far

Once Upon A Time In A Galaxy Far Far Away....

There was a bunch of professionals who worked for the Tropical Research And Conservation Centre (TRACC). They had done a million billion marine surveys of the region and knew what all the problems affecting the marine life were. They decided that the solution to all these problems was education. People didn't know that the marine life was amazing, or that it was threatened or that simple things like conserving water and recycling could make a big difference.

So after some serious thinking they decided that they could build an ENORMOUS aquarium (being fairly good at that already) and that would show everyone how fantastic aquatic life is. Then, when everyone was already inside they would tell them how this wonderful underwater world was in serious danger and how anyone, anywhere in the world, could make a difference. Oh and while they were there they would teach them how bridges are built and why dolphins need to breathe air and other funky stuff.

Then they realised that if tourists would come to the aquarium just because (what else do you do on a rainy afternoon in KK?) then they could afford to bring school children from all over Sabah to learn why Sharks need their fins.

And so, Aquatica was born. It took a long time to persuade people to help us build it and to raise the money - Plastic windows are astoundingly expensive - but we did it and now we have got this party started. Exhibits have been planned, discovery centre modules designed, snakes caught, cliffs built and even though we have only been working on site for six weeks or so we are ready to bring it all in as soon as the roof is up.

Woo Hoo

Well! Here we are. An online site to tell our friends, relations and interested parties what we actually 'Do'. We are going to post pictures, links and regular updates so that you can follow our progress as we build probably the best aquarium in Sabah...
There is lots of technical information on the website (www.aquaticakk.org) but if you want to know what that hole in the ground is or whether we have finished laying the fence yet then this is the place to come.
The management would like me to point out that this is written by the staff, for the staff, to the staff and from the staff and that they are not, in any way shape or form, responsible for us.
